MONEY ORDER

  • A money order is an order issued by the Post Office for the payment of a sum of money to the person whose name the money order is sent through the agency of the Post Office.

  • Remitter is the person who sends the money order.

  • Payee is the person named in money order as the person to whom the money is to be paid.

  • The advantage of sending money to someone through money order is that the money is delivered at the house or his place of stay.

  • All money orders are carried by air, without any surcharge wherever such a conveyance is available and is advantageous.

Maximum Value of Money Order Rs. 5000
The value of money order cannot include a fraction of a rupee.
Telegraphic Money Order charges are same as ordinary money order plus supplementary fee and actual telegraph charges.
 

SPEED POST MONEY ORDER

  • Money Order for Rs. 20/- or more can be sent by Speed Post between stations connected by Speed Post, on payment of speed post fee, besides the Money Order commission.
  • Speed Post fee is to be paid in the form of postage stamp(s) affixed or frank impressed on the form.
  • Booking is done at Speed Post Centre or counter.
  • In case the Money Order is not paid with in the notified time -limit, due to operational fault of the department, Speed Post fee is refunded, on a claim to be preferred within three months from the date of issue.

TELEGRAPH MONEY ORDER (TMO)

  • Money Order will be transmitted by the telegraph, if so booked on payment of the prescribed fee.
  • Telegraph Money Order is booked and paid only by Post offices authorised to book and pay TMOs.
  • The remitter should write on the Money Order form " By Telegraph Express" or " By Telegraph Ordinary".
  • Code word or abbreviated address should not be used in the address of the payee.
  • The Telegraph Money Order charges include the prescribed money order commission, supplementary charge, telegraph charge and late fee, if any.
